I don't know about you, but I find shaving a chore, let me rephrase that an expensive chore. The other week I sat down with the sad realisation that I needed a new razor. I wanted something different than my usual razor, with some research I came across Harry's a subscription box with low priced but quality razor and blades, my only issue was that it didn't ship to the UK! However, I found a site that shipped the boxes to those of us out here in England. (can be found here!) Good ol' J.CREW.
Harry's tag line is: Harry's was built out of respect for quality craftsmanship, simple design, modern convenience and most importantly for guys who know they shouldn't have to overpay for a great shave. They have a very pretty website and I can tell you I was quite excited to have a shave!
The box itself is again very pretty and a great way to keep all your shaving gear together. The price for the kit is £25 and this includes: Shave cream, a truman handle, three blades and a travel blade cover. Not bad for £25 quid!! However, just because it looks good doesn't mean it is a good enough reason to buy it (though lets not lie it almost does).
The shave cream, has subtle smell and lathers up the skin nicely, and you don't need to use too much of it. The razor itself feels a bit fragile when you press it against your skin, however, it is just flexible which is great when shaving around your chin and neck - seriously I found it so easy! The blades were sharp - I've got the cuts to prove it, though i'm sure that's due to my poor shaving ability. But it gives a fantastic close shave pretty much in just one swipe, no going back over bits that didn't really cut. It took me no time at all to have one of the closet shaves I've ever had. Now I have really sensitive skin, and usually shaving brings me out in a red rash along my neck (again partly due to my bad shaving ability) but not this time, my neck was fine.
The ease and effectiveness really impressed me, and it really can be that easy, the idea of the box is that you just order more blades when you need them! Great ... unless you live in the UK at the moment you can't get spare blades. However, when you are almost paying £13 quid for new blades for other razor brands and then shaving cream on top of that you can almost get a whole new Harry's box. And in all probability that is what i'll do, three blades will last me a while and then I'll get some more of the Harry's shaving cream with it too!
It is a great shave at an affordable price, I can say I am a Harry's convert!
